Literary Pittsburgh's on a roll!
Events, Anthologies, Pickles, Submissions, French Fries and more . . .
It’s another big month in Littsburgh!
We just added a BUNCH of new events to the calendar (both online and a couple of in-person events — scroll down to check those out!) and we’ve got posts about local anthologies, poetry submissions, and more on the site this week . . .
Your friends in books,
Rachel, Nick, and Katie

P.S. It’s Nick’s birthday this weekend and he’s doing a fun book giveaway over on Twitter and Instagram to celebrate! 🎉
Help Fund The New Triangulation: Habitats Anthology!
“The Triangulation anthology series is published by Parsec Ink, the publishing wing of Parsec Inc., a Pittsburgh, PA 501(c)(3) organization with a mission to promote the richness of speculative fiction as literature, art, and music, further general education in the sciences and arts, and support contributions—both scientific and artistic—to society . . .”
Greater Pittsburgh Festival of Books hosts a conversation with John Edgar Wideman!
“Mr. Wideman, a native of Pittsburgh, is an internationally recognized novelist, short story writer, memoirist, essayist and the first author to win the PEN/Faulkner Award for Fiction twice. He will be interviewed by University of Pittsburgh faculty Dr. Shaun Myers and Dr. Khirsten L. Scott, discussing his newest book, You Made Me Love You, a collection of the best of Wideman’s short stories over his fifty-year career. Many of the stories in the book involve the streets and people of Homewood, the Pittsburgh neighborhood where he grew up . . .”
Call for Poetry Submissions: A Critique of the Gods! (Deadline: Nov. 30)
“Religion is a part of any society no matter where you go, it has affected everyone’s lives whether one is a believer or not. Share your thoughts, experiences, and reflections about the world through religion in a poem, to create a poetic anthology. Submitters must be from Western PA/Pittsburgh area.”
Book Launch Celebration: “Twenty Won” (An Anthology of 21 Female Entrepreneurs)!
“Twenty Won, an anthology of 21 female business owners and nonprofit leaders sharing stories of business resilience during the 2020 global crisis, will hold an official launch celebration on August 21. The event will take place at the Sto-Rox Library’s Fr. Ryan Arts Center at 6:00 pm.”
Cover Reveal + Pre-order Goodies - Snow Struck by Littsburgh’s Nick Courage
“I am SO EXCITED to finally be able to share the cover art for SNOW STRUCK, which is going to be published by Delacorte Press / Random House Kids in early 2022!”
“Thirty-nine years old, laid off from a bookstore, and working in the backroom of a grocery, Sean Rogers thought the time was right to start his career as a software developer. The only problem: he knew nothing about technology. Just the opposite, he held on to CD players and flip phones long past the point of prudence.
Enter Tech Elevator (in Pittsburgh), an in-person coding boot camp boasting a 92% job placement. Welcome to 14 weeks of intensive education, larger-than-life characters, and a bumbling yet inspiring attempt at becoming a programmer….”
Start Reading Perseverance: One Holocaust Survivor’s Journey from Poland to America…
“Perseverance witnesses the life and legacy of Melvin Goldman. Part One of the book, excerpted here, is in Goldman’s own words, assembled from the bits and pieces of his life he recorded in free moments in his Squirrel Hill jewelry store. In Part Two, Lee Goldman Kikel, Melvin’s daughter, recalls the happy life of a Squirrel Hill Jewish family, and pays tribute to a father who lived through unimaginable atrocities, but maintained his faith in God and humanity.”
